Transformers Generations
Next Project: We Are Porsche
-
The Petersen Automotive Museum store had just received a new Transformers action figure, and I was assigned to create a promotional video to showcase its features and attract customers.
-
My objective was to highlight the figure’s articulations and blaster, ensuring the animation effectively demonstrated its range of motion and interactive elements in an engaging way.
-
Before starting the animation, I sketched a small storyboard for myself to use as a reference, mapping out key movements and transitions. This helped me plan the pacing and flow of the video. I then used After Effects’ Puppet Tool to animate the figure’s articulations, bringing its movements to life in a smooth and realistic way. This approach allowed me to emphasize the figure’s flexibility and action-packed nature while maintaining a polished visual style.
-
The final video successfully captured the action figure’s key features, making it more appealing to customers. This project was a fun and creative challenge that not only enhanced my motion graphics skills but also reinforced the importance of pre-planning with storyboards to streamline the animation process.
The storyboard is a quick and rough set of sketches mapping out the Transformers action figure’s coolest moves—bending, blasting, and looking awesome—complete with arrows, notes, and a game plan for bringing it to life in animation!
