Avila Beach Rally

  • For the inaugural Avila Beach Rally in 2024, the Petersen Automotive Museum needed a fresh, unique visual identity that would capture the essence of the event and appeal to attendees. This was a weekend rally event, and it was important to ensure the design assets were engaging and accessible, reflecting both the automotive heritage and the scenic beauty of the location.

  • As the design lead, I was responsible for spearheading the design assets for the event. This included creating the logo, developing the overall brand identity, and managing the production of materials to support the rally. Since it was the first time the rally was taking place, I wanted to ensure the design elements stood out and helped create a memorable experience for the attendees.

  • I started the project by researching 80s campaign and beach logo styles for inspiration. I wanted the logo to evoke a sense of nostalgia, while also being modern and energetic—capturing both the spirit of the rally and the relaxed coastal vibe of Avila Beach. From there, I developed multiple logo designs and narrowed down the one that best aligned with the event’s atmosphere and goals.

Instead of the traditional magazine, I proposed and designed an app to house all essential information for the rally. This included a detailed schedule, event highlights, and important locations. I also integrated a link to the Rallista rally platform, allowing attendees to easily follow the curated routes created by the marketing team. The app offered a more interactive and user-friendly experience, which was more fitting for a weekend rally than a static print magazine.

Additionally, I coordinated the design of decals for the participating cars, ensuring they had a cohesive look with the event branding. I also created complimentary hats for attendees, reinforcing the rally’s sense of exclusivity and community.

  • The first-ever Avila Beach Rally was a great success, with attendees enjoying a seamless digital experience through the app and engaging with the branded materials throughout the weekend. The logo and branding perfectly captured the event’s energy, while the custom decals and hats were a hit among participants. By leading the design and management of these assets, I helped create a memorable visual identity that set the foundation for future rallies.

I had the opportunity to design a weekend app for the rally, creating an interactive experience that enhanced the event for participants. The app featured links to the Rallista app, a platform specifically designed for creating and managing rallies, ensuring seamless navigation and event coordination. Additionally, I incorporated interactive elements, allowing users to click on “Day 1” to access that day’s itinerary, details, and maps, with the same functionality for each subsequent day. This design made it easy for attendees to stay informed and engaged throughout the weekend.
